2009-Chevrolet TrailBlazer

New 2009 Chevrolet TrailBlazer :
The 2009 TrailBlazer is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in 8 trims, ranging from the LT1 2WD to the SS3 AWD.

Upon introduction, the LT1 2WD is equipped with a standard 4.2-liter, I6, 285-horsepower engine that achieves 15-mpg in the city and 21-mpg on the highway. The SS3 AWD is equipped with a standard 6.0-liter, V8, 390-horsepower engine that achieves 12-mpg in the city and 16-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
TrailBlazer SS has unique exterior styling and specific interior appointments, including prominent 20-inch flangeless wheels. Power comes from the LS2 6.0L V-8 that produces 390 horsepower (290 kW) and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (542 Nm) – enabling the powerful SUV to reach 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The TrailBlazer SS is available in two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

TrailBlazer SS is a serious performer and a capable midsize SUV. Riding on a one-inch-lower suspension, the TrailBlazer SS’s suspension was tuned and tested on the racetrack to deliver responsive, balanced handling. The lower ride height reduces the vehicle’s center of gravity, improving overall handling. The springs are up to 25 percent stiffer than the LT model, complementing the lowered ride height with a firmer feel and reduced body roll. Corner control and body roll control also are improved with front stabilizer bars that are approximately 10 percent larger in diameter than other TrailBlazer models. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard.

The four-wheel-disc with ABS brake system uses large, 12.8-inch (325 mm) front disc brake rotors and iron, twin-piston calipers. The heavy-duty iron calipers are stiff and retain their shape under high pressure/high heat braking conditions, providing a more linear feel and reduced pedal travel in high-energy stops. There also is an accessory front brake cooling package available for optimized track performance. With TrailBlazer SS’s brakes, tires and revised ABS algorithm, 62-mph-to-0 (100-kp/h-to-0) stopping distance is approximately 135 feet.

Under the hood, the LS2 6.0L V-8 delivers satisfying down-low torque, for strong off-the-line performance. Torque is inherent to the engine’s cam-in-block design, large 4.00-inch-diameter (101.6 mm) bores and 3.62-inch (92 mm) stroke. Response is crisp and immediate, thanks to the electronically controlled throttle. There also is a stylish SS-specific engine cover, radiator support cover and coordinated air induction box.

Backing the 6.0L V-8 is a new Hydra-Matic 4L70 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. It was developed to handle the high horsepower and high torque loads of performance-oriented light-duty vehicles. Special high-strength and heat-treated materials are used in the 4L70 to ensure it delivers smooth, dependable shifting.

A performance-oriented all-wheel drive system is available, giving the TrailBlazer SS impressive on-road grip and enhanced “launch” feel. The always-engaged system uses a Torsen center differential to split torque between the front and rear wheels. It is a torque-bias system that detects low traction at one axle and directs more torque to the other when needed – it is capable of changing the normal 67-percent rear-axle torque bias up to 45/55 (front/rear) or 25/75 (front/rear), depending on the road conditions.

Ascari KZ1 Pictures

The KZ1 was originally conceived following on from the successes of Team Ascari. The idea was proposed for a road-going sports car based on racing technology. In the spring of 2000, that concept began to take shape in the form of the prototype KZ1. Now completed, the Ascari KZ1 has been transformed from a dream to a production reality.

The pleasure begins as you unlock the door and step inside. You'll find an elegant combination of interior materials, including leather, alcantara and brushed aluminium.Press the 'Start' button and the powerful 5.0 litre V8 engine eagerly springs into life.Inspired by the achievements of Alberto Ascari, the first double world champion in the history of Formula One, the Ascari KZ1 gives unparalleled performance and driveability in one of the world's most exclusive supercars.

A carbon fibre monocoque structure gives lightness and strength to the sleek mid-engined design, resulting in an aerodynamic drag coefficient (CD) ratio of a mere 0.35.The normally aspirated 5 litre V8, 32 valve engine gives an effortless 500 brake horse power through a six speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels.Beautifully designed, hand-crafted and built to exceptional standards, the exclusivity of the Ascari KZ1 is assured by the creation of only 50 cars.

The opulent sporting interior cossets the driver in fully adjustable leather sports seats which give great lateral support during dynamic cornering.Uniquely designed polished aluminium controls sit on a leather trimmed dashboard with central 'Start' button emphasising our sporting heritage.Climate controlled air conditioning keeps the generous interior space cool no matter how hot the driving experience.Subtle back-lighting of the fascia gauges and controls set a relaxed mood whilst conveying all the vital information accurately at all times. Electric windows and door mirrors, CD player and remote central locking with Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser complete the specification.Interior colour schemes match the exterior paint options and are entirely at the owners discretion, with all colour combinations offered for the ultimate in creating a bespoke supercar.

Extraordinary Photos of Plant Filled With 80,000 Volts Electricity

These extraordinary images reveal what happens when electrical surges pass through a metal board with a simple plant on top.

Photographer Robert Buelteman sends 80,000 volts through his flowery subjects and then literally paints photographs of the outcome.

In three awe-inspiring series, the 55-year-old uses roses, petunias, and even cannabis in mind-blowing detail to give an extraordinary view of ordinary plant-life.

The process to capture these unique images is so complex it has taken him 10 years - and a gruelling average of 60 hours-per-week - to produce just 80 photos.

Working in complete darkness, he begins by placing his chosen plant onto a metal board which he then passes the electrical surge through.

He can even pinpoint areas where he wants to focus the charge using a wand and a simple car battery.

As his subject lights up with the current, and emits radiation invisible to the naked eye, Mr Buelteman captures the moments by passing a fibre optic cable back-and-forth over the plant.

The cable emits a beam of white light which is just the size of a human hair and whatever the miniscule torch-beam touches, transfers the image onto film.

The captivating blue haze that surrounds every leaf, petal and stalk is actually gases ionising around them as the plant is electronically shocked.

To explain the baffling process, Buelteman, from Montara, California, USA, uses a trusted analogy.

'You just have to imagine it like a painter creating a picture on canvass,' he said. 'The plant is the subject just like the painter's bowl of fruit or the person they are capturing.

'The electrified board I place the plants on is the canvass. The fibre optic cable emitting the light-beam is my paintbrush.

'Another way to try and understand it is like a normal photograph on a normal camera, except I am manually controlling the exposure by hand. In the same way the image I capture is simply burned onto film.'

To give the pictures an added dazzling effect, Mr Buelteman's aluminium canvass actually floats in liquid silicone.

And to make sure he doesn't get killed or injured in the process, he erects a protective frame of wood around his easel.

But despite these being the first pictures of their kind in his profession, Mr Buelteman says he has in fact invented nothing and uses a combination of age-old techniques developed decades ago.

Semyon Kirlian - developer of Kirlian photography - accidentally found in 1939 that it was possible to photograph electrical discharges at the edges of objects if that were being shocked on an electrified plate.

'When people see my work I want them to feel an awakening. The world is an amazing place and evolution has created some breathtaking things for us to look at.

'For me, art is about looking at the world and all it's wonder in a new way, seeing something differently.'

Mr Buelteman has written about the project and the techniques he uses in his book Signs of Life.

His works are being bought for a phenomenal five figures by art collectors.
